Argentina's Enzo Fernández was sent off after receiving a second yellow card, forcing his team to finish the match with 10 players. After the final whistle, tensions boiled over as players from both teams clashed, leading to two more red cards.
Argentina, the 2022 champions, fell short of defending their title. The match also marked Lionel Messi's final FIFA World Cup appearance, following Cristiano Ronaldo's recent retirement from international football.
Spain created history by becoming the first nation to hold both the men's and women's FIFA World Cup titles at the same time.
