Shraddha Walkar Murder Case - What Happened?

A predator who, believe it or not, was also a lover to a 26-year-old woman, killed her, chopped her into pieces and scattered the body parts across Delhi.

The national capital of India- Delhi, is also known as the crime capital because of the heinous crimes which happen in and around the city limits. Now again there one more such shocking and extremely horrifying murder. This incident would have sent shivers down our body had it happened anywhere in the world. A predator who, believe it or not, was also a lover to a 26-year-old woman, killed her, chopped her into pieces and scattered the body parts across Delhi. Police identified the accused as 28 year old Aftab Amin Poonawalla. He had been in a live-in relationship with the victim named Shraddha. Shraddha worked at a call centre in Mumbai, where she met Poonawalla. The two eventually got into a relationship and moved to Delhi, despite opposition from Shraddha's family. The couple rented a flat. The couple had an argument in mid-May over marriage, which escalated, and he strangled her. Around the same time, Vikas Madan Walkar, victim's father, said that he received no calls from his daughter. This made him suspect something unusual. The father lives with his family in Maharashtra's Palghar. In September, Shraddha's friend informed her brother that her mobile phone had been switched off for over two months. Her family also checked her social media accounts and found no updates during this period.

In November, the victim's father, Vikash Madan Walker, approached Mumbai police and lodged a missing person's complaint. Meanwhile the Maharashtra police said the accused - Aftab Poonawalla - had 'changed his statement every time' they spoke to him. He told the Mumbai police that he 'used to live together' and that she had left him in May after a fight. During the initial investigation, the victim's last location was found in Delhi, and on the basis of this, the case was transferred to Delhi police. The victim's father told the police about his daughter's relationship with Poonawala and suspected his involvement in his daughter's disappearance.

On 8th November 2022, Vikas Madan came to Delhi to check on his daughter and found a lock on her flat. He approached the Mehrauli Police and filed a complaint alleging kidnapping. In his complaint, Vikas alleged that Shraddha had earlier told him that Poonawala used to frequently beat her. On the basis of this, police arrested Poonawala. During investigation, he revealed that the two fought frequently as Shraddha wanted to marry him. Five months after he committed this heinous crime, the man has been arrested. He then confessed that he chopped her body into 35 pieces and bought a 300-liter fridge to keep them. Over the next 18 days, he disposed of the pieces at different areas of the Mehrauli forest. The police arrested Poonawala and have filed a case of murder against him. Police said some remains were recovered from the forest, but it is not known if they are human remains.  The knife used by the accused, who was reportedly trained as a chef, has also not been found yet.
