Pakistan: 17-Year-Old Arrested After Raping 18-Month-Old Girl, Who Later Died

A teenage relative was arrested in Karachi after an 18-month-old girl died following an alleged sexual assault.

An 18-month-old girl in Qayyumabad, Karachi, died after she was allegedly sexually assaulted by a teenage relative on 4 August 2026.

According to the FIR, the teenager, Abdul Manan, was known to the family and often took the child outside. On that day, he took her outside and returned more than an hour later with the child unconscious. Her family initially thought she was unwell, but later noticed blood while changing her diaper.

The family rushed her to a hospital and were advised to take her to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). However, the child died before she could receive further treatment. A post-mortem examination raised suspicion of sexual assault and found other injuries.

Police registered a case of rape and murder and arrested Manan after he reportedly fled. Since there was confusion about whether he was 15 or 17 years old, a court ordered a medical examination to confirm his age.

On 6 August, a juvenile court granted police seven days of physical remand to continue the investigation and establish his age. The case has shocked people across Pakistan, with several celebrities also speaking out and demanding justice.
