Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray Resigns

In between the huge political crisis which has taken over in the state of Maharashtra, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has finally resigned on Wednesday 29th June.

There is a huge political problem going on in Maharashtra. All Shiv Sena MLAs have stopped supporting Uddhav Thackeray and are with Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde in Goa. On 29th June 2022, The Supreme Court ordered that Uddhav must prove today that his government still has majority MLAs in the Vidhan Sabha by participating in the floor test. Minutes after the SC announced this, Uddhav realised he does not have a majority. Instead of going through the floor test, he decided to resign. He announced his resignation in a Facebook live. Moreover Mr Uddhav Thackeray, has also resigned as a member of legislative council , and said that he was not going away forever. However before announcing his resignation he renamed Aurangabad to Sambhajinagar and Osmanabad as Dharashiv as it was Balasaheb’s dream to rename the place and he had promised people to do it long back. He aslo said Navi Mumbai International airport will be changed to DB Patil Airport. Soon after Uddhav Thackeray announced his resignation on a facebook live, he drove his car himself to the Raj Bhawan along with his son & Maharashtra minister Aditya Thackreay sitting in the back seat of his car to hand over his resignation letter to the governor of Maharashtra Bhagat Singh Koshyari who accepted his resignation letter and an update was immediately posted through governor’s official twitter handle on the late night of 29th June.

Soon after Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray reported his resignation, it is being reported that the BJP is likely to form the government in the state. Media reports also suggested that BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis is likely to take oath as Maharashtra CM on July 1. In the meantime, Devendra Fadnavis along with state BJP chief Chandrakant Patil and other party leaders were seen holding a party meet at Taj President hotel in Mumbai, where Devendra Fadnavis was also seen eating sweets as a gesture of soon sitting in the Chief Minister’s seat of Maharashtra.

BJP Maharashtra Chief Chandrakant Patil has urged the Eknath Shinde and the other MLAs to cancel their plan to return to Mumbai on 30th June and instead reach Mumbai on the day of Oath. He said if they return now it will be unsafe for them. The Shiv Sena MLA’s in Guwahati have said that they were not expecting Uddhav Thackeray to resign and his decision is sad for them, they mentioned that they only wanted Uddhav Thackeray to take back his support from NCP & Congress which were causing disruptions in the ideologies of their own party.
