According to him, It was a dummy plane and part of his biopic. It was shot in 2019 or 2020. It was shot in Dubai. People who are sitting in the dummy plane were also a part of the shoot. According to him, the shooting for his biopic was started in 2019 and it is likely to be completed in 2024. He said, ‘I do not see the need to give any justification. The person who shared the video on social media could have reached out to me and I would have explained, but everyone wanted publicity. I want to ask everyone, how can a lighter make its way into an airplane? It would be detected by a scanner. A cigarette still one can carry, but not a lighter.” Meanwhile, SpiceJet Thursday issued a statement saying that the video was real. The airlines said the incident happened on 20 January 2022, on Dubai to Delhi flight.

Bobby was sitting on his seat and other passengers were still boarding the flight. That’s when Bobby lit the cigarette and his copassengers shot the video. Since the cabin crew were busy helping passengers board the flight, they did not see him. The airlines came to know about it through Bobby’s social media posts. Immediately they filed a police complaint and Kataria had been put on the ‘no-flying’ list for a period of 15 days in February after this video initially emerged. Also after the smoking row happened, the Uttarakhand Police has registered a case against Bobby Kataria after one of the videos showing him consuming alcohol on a busy Dehradun road went viral.

The video, posted by Mr. Kataria on his Instagram handle on 28th July, triggered anger among Twitter users.

He had said in the caption, "It's time to enjoy on the roads." The video, posted by Mr. Kataria, has been uploaded with the background song "Road apne baap ki." However, in a tweet on its official handle, the Uttarakhand Police said that the Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Kumar has filed cases against Mr. Kataria under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Information Technology Act.
