In Andhra Pradesh, the district officials have made a mockery of the people’s suffering by providing expired oil in the relief kits.
In the Krishna and Guntur districts of Andhra Pradesh there were dangerous floods last week due to overflowing of the Krishna river. More than 17,000 people’s lives were affected. People in this area were dependent on the district administration for help. The district administration did help however the people were shocked by their behavior. Let me elaborate. The Guntur district administration distributed oil packets to the victims of the Krishna floods. However these oil packets had expired on 16th July 2019. Edible oils usually expire after six months. After expiry they the oil may change color, texture, or taste.
When locals saw that they oil had expired they became very angry and protested. They demanded that officials replace the oil and give them new oil packets. A woman said, "We will fall sick if we use this. We are already suffering due to the flood. The district administration should visit us and take steps to rectify this mistake.Telugu Desam Party leader said, "The district officials are playing with the health of the public by supplying ex oil packets to flood victims. He said this shows the level of corruption in the authorities. Another official reportedly said that local traders saw the floods as an opportunity to make profits and mixed the expired batch with other stocks.
