Amazing Performance By Deaf Long Jump Athlete!

K Manikandan is a 17 year old deaf boy. He is from Nagalapuram village in Tamil Nadu. On 22nd July there was a competition held in New Delhi where other Deaf also participated in long jump. Manikandan played very well. So he got selected to represent India in long jump at the World Deaf Athletics Championships in Lublin, Poland, held between 23rd August and 28th August. At the World Deaf Athletics, there were 12 people in the final. Manikandan came in seventh among the 12 finalists. He has also qualified for the Deaflympics scheduled to be held in Brazil in 2022. On his return to the district on 2nd September, Manikandan was felicitated by the Trichy District Welfare Association of the Deaf. N. Rameshbabu, General Secretary of the association expressed, “His participation will inspire and motivate other children with disabilities to overcome their struggles and achieve. The association has helped several people with disabilities PwD children take up sports and has planned to mobilise support to help Manikandan attend the Deaflympics next year too.”
