2018 Telangana Assembly Elections

The first Assembly elections to be held in the state of Telangana.

On 2 July 2014, Telangana separated from Andhra Pradesh to form a new state with Hyderabad as its capital. The last Assembly election was held in 2014 in Andhra before it’s separation. This is the first time elections are being held in the state of Telangana.

Telangana Chief Minister Chandrasekhar Rao from the TRS party (Telangana Rashtra Samithi), dissolved the state assembly 8 months prior to the elections. According to rumours, the Chief Minister took this decision so that the peaceful atmosphere of the state will help him win the elections.

The Congress has joint hands with the TDP party (Telugu Desam Party) for the first time. They have done this so they can fight the BJP in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) is also taking part in the elections and might influence the muslim population around hyderabad.

The Bjp is also contesting for the elections in Telangana.

The Election will take place on the 7 December and the votes will be counted on the 11 of December.
