Nirbhaya’s Rapist Files Mercy Plea

One of the accused in the Nirbhaya rape case has files a mercy plea with the the President of India. Watch the video to know more.

The rape case in Delhi was one of the most dangerous cases of rape that has ever been reported in the country. six men raped a 23-year-old woman on a moving bus in Delhi after which they threw her out on the road. The woman was severely wounded due to which she died. This rape case angered people all over India. The woman is now known as Nirbhaya. The six men were arrested and sent to jail. Out of the six, one was a minor. Since he was a minor he was sentenced to 3 years jail in a reform facility. One of them named Ram Singh Hanged himself in his cell. 

The remaining four were sentenced to Death Penalty and would be hanged. Out of these four, one of them named Vinay Sharma has filed a request petition before President Ram Nath Kovind and requested him to give him the death penalty. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that the President must reject his petition so others do not commit such crimes in the future. 

The National Commission for Women also urged President Kovind to reject the mercy petition. They said that only the death sentence would deter others from committing such crimes against women and girls.The President will now decide.
