Woman Delivers Baby in Washroom, Dog Runs Away With It In Mouth
A pregnant woman’s baby was stolen by a stray dog after being left unattended in a West Bengal hospital washroom, sparking outrage.
A disturbing incident at a hospital in West Bengal has left the entire country in shock. On the night of 18th November 2024, Priya Roy, a 6-month pregnant woman from Kochdihi village, went to Sonamukhi Rural Hospital in Bankura because of severe stomach pain. What happened next has raised serious questions about the hospital’s care and the safety of patients.
After Priya’s initial check-up, the doctor asked her to give a urine sample. While trying to use the washroom, Priya unexpectedly went into labor and gave birth to a premature baby, who fell to the floor. Some reports suggest that the hospital was overcrowded, understaffed, and inefficient in handling her situation. They claim Priya was not properly attended to and had to give birth alone in the washroom.
However, Priya and her family insist that she was only 6 months pregnant and that the severe stomach ache she felt led her to seek help at the hospital.
After the baby’s premature birth, Priya and her family rushed to get help from the hospital staff. But, according to the family, no one responded in time. The baby was left alone in the washroom, unattended and vulnerable. Priya, who had just given birth, was too weak to look for help on her own.
When the family returned, they found the baby missing. In a shocking turn of events, the family discovered a stray dog carrying the baby away. Despite their attempts to save the child, they could not rescue the baby.
Priya and her family have accused the hospital staff of gross negligence, claiming that their repeated calls for help were ignored. Several eyewitnesses confirmed seeing stray dogs roaming around the hospital even after the incident, raising further concerns about the hospital’s security.
BJP leader Amit Malviya shared the incident on Twitter, calling it “appalling and heartbreaking.” His tweet, along with the photo of the incident, quickly went viral on social media, with the hashtag #ShameOnMamata trending widely. Malviya criticized West Bengal's Health Minister Mamata Banerjee for the failure of the state-run medical system.
Following the tragic incident, the hospital authorities launched an inquiry. Minakshi Maity, the Chief Medical Officer of Bishnupur Health District, mentioned that during the initial investigation, they found several discrepancies in the family’s claims. She suggested that the photo shared by the family was “fabricated,” and questioned the accuracy of Priya’s pregnancy records.
However, Priya continues to stand by her story, insisting that she was only 6 months pregnant and that the stomach ache led her to the hospital. She has rejected the claims made by local health workers, stating that her medical records are accurate.
This incident has sparked outrage online, with many people demanding better healthcare infrastructure and stricter safety measures at state-run hospitals in West Bengal. The shocking tragedy has raised serious concerns about the lack of accountability in the state’s healthcare system.
The question remains: Was this a tragic accident caused by hospital negligence, or is it part of a larger political stunt? Only time will tell as the investigation continues, but one thing is clear: the people of West Bengal are demanding answers.
