Why Indian Army Wrote Raveena Tandon’s Name on Bombs
During the 1999 Kargil War, Indian soldiers humorously responded to Pakistani soldiers' remarks by sending a bomb labeled ‘From Raveena Tandon to Nawaz Sharif – with love.’
A funny and surprising story from the 1999 Kargil War between India and Pakistan is once again catching people’s attention.
During that time, Pakistan’s then-Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had said in public that his favourite Bollywood actress was Raveena Tandon — one of the most loved stars of the 90s. Her beauty and charm were admired not just in India but also in Pakistan.
As the war was going on, some Pakistani soldiers reportedly shouted to the Indian side, “Take your dead back and give us Madhuri and Raveena!” — asking for Bollywood stars Madhuri Dixit and Raveena Tandon in exchange for the bodies of Indian soldiers.
The Indian Army decided to respond in a unique and bold way. They wrote on a bomb:
“From Raveena Tandon to Nawaz Sharif – with love”
They even drew a heart with an arrow on it!
Years later, when Raveena Tandon heard about this, she was surprised. She said she had no idea this had happened. She appreciated the soldiers’ humour but also gave a strong message:
“If problems can be solved with love and talks, then please do that instead of war. But if needed, give me a gun and I’ll stand at the border to defend the country.”
This story remains a mix of humour, patriotism, and Bollywood magic during a serious time in India’s history.
