Are You Sitting Correctly? Right Postures Explained
Good screen posture, regular movement and eye breaks can help prevent neck, back and eye strain.
Phones, laptops, tablets and TVs are now a big part of our daily lives, but spending long hours using them with poor posture can put unnecessary strain on the neck, back, shoulders, wrists and eyes. Constantly looking down at your phone or hunching over a laptop can cause neck and back pain, headaches, eye strain, tiredness and even long-term spine problems.
This is often called “tech neck”, which refers to neck pain and stiffness caused by prolonged screen use.
Good posture does not mean sitting stiffly. It means keeping your body in a natural and balanced position. While using a device, keep your back supported, shoulders relaxed and feet flat on the floor, with your knees at roughly a 90-degree angle. Try to keep your screen close to eye level so you do not constantly bend your neck forward.
Avoid using devices while lying down, as this can put your neck and spine in awkward positions and increase eye strain.
Your eyes also need regular breaks. Try the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look at something about 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds. It is also important to stand up, stretch your neck, shoulders, wrists and back, and move around regularly instead of staying in one position for hours.
If you often experience neck stiffness, back pain, headaches, wrist pain or tingling in your fingers after using screens, your posture and screen habits may need attention.
Healthy posture is not about perfection—it is about reducing unnecessary strain, moving regularly and keeping your body comfortable while using technology every day.
