Trump Now 1st US President to be Impeached Twice
Donald Trump became the first US president in history to be impeached twice when the House of Representatives voted to charge him with inciting last week's mob attack on Congress.
The Impeachment Process is where the House of Representatives vote to decide whether the President is guilty of breaking rules. If majority votes are against the President a trial is held before the United States Senate who will decide whether to remove him or not. Last week Trump supporters stormed the US Capitol which led to a lot of violence. 5 people were dead because of this. Because of this the US House of representatives on 13th Jan decided to vote and decided whether US President Trump provoked his supporters in his speech to riot at Capitol Hill. The House of Representatives voted at 1:30am IST Thursday.
Both Democrats and Republicans voted. The members of the House of Representatives voted 232-197 and held Trump responsible for inciting violence at the capitol. Out of the 232 who voted against Trump, 10 were republicans from his own party.
However, the Senate will not hold the trial immediately. The trial will be held after Joe Biden assumes presidency. If the Senate decides that Trump is guilty of provoking violence, then he will not be allowed to take part in elections in 2024. This is the second time Trump has been impeached. He was impeached earlier. Last year Trump had tried to dig up dirt on Joe Biden so that he could defeat him in elections. When proof about this incident came out, the US House of Representatives decided to start the “Impeachment Process”. Trump is the 1st US President to be impeached twice.
