Tom & Jerry Animator Dies at 95

Oscar-winning illustrator and animation filmmaker Gene Deitch has died at the age of 95. Watch our video for all the details.

Tom and Jerry and Popeye are cartoons that many of us grew up watching. These cartoons were so funny and gave children so much happiness. Do you know the animator of Tom & Jerry and Popeye? It was Gene Deitch. He was born in Chicago, USA but later moved to Prague where he met his wife and lived his whole life there. 

Gene Deitch directed 13 episodes of Tom And Jerry between 1961 to 1962 and also directed a few episodes of Popeye between 1960 and 1963. His animated short Munro won the Best Animated Short Film Oscar in 1961. On 16th April Gene passed away at the age of 95 in Prague. People around the world were very sad when they heard about his death. Many people posted their condolences on social media. Many people said, “"We love you for making this cartoon," "Thank you for making our childhood awesome". "Thank you for giving us such memorable cartoons which can't be erased so easily from our hearts."Gene Deitch is survived by his wife and sons, all of whom are illustrators and cartoonists.
