A man traveling from Mumbai to Bengaluru on a SpiceJet flight was trapped inside the plane's toilet for more than an hour.
It looks like the low cost airlines of India aren't functioning efficiently at the moment. After the multiple Indigo incidents, a recent spicejet incident has come to light which is both scary and hilarious. A man traveling from Mumbai to Bengaluru on a SpiceJet flight was trapped inside the plane's toilet for over one & a half hours on 16th January 2024. The incident occurred on flight SG-268 which took off from Mumbai airport at 2 am. The passenger had reportedly gone to the toilet soon after seatbelt signs went off. But after using the toilet, he couldn’t open the lock. Apparently, the lavatory’s door lock malfunctioned and got stuck mid air. The passenger had to sit on the closed commode for the rest of the flight. A video has now surfaced showing the passenger struggling to open the door. The 25-second clip shows the man sitting on the commode lid in the cramped-up toilet, then standing and trying to push the door. Someone from outside also tries to move the door handle to open it. After failing to open the door multiple times, the crew slid a note across from under the locked bathroom door, asking the passenger not to panic. The note read, "Sir, we tried our best to open the door. However, we could not open it. Do not panic, we are landing in a few minutes. So please close the commode lid and sit on it and secure yourself. As soon as the main door is open, the engineer will come. Do not panic." He was finally rescued after landing in Bengaluru when ground engineers & technicians unlocked the lavatory door. After the rescue, the passenger was immediately attended to by medical professionals to assess his well-being. Later, spicejet issued a statement expressing their regret over the incident. The statement also announced that the passenger was guided and assisted throughout the journey through the locked door. In other aviation related news, SpiceJet and Air India were fined ?30 lakh each by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on 17th January 2024 for intentionally disobeying fog-preparedness rules. The airlines were held guilty of not having rostered CAT III trained pilots who are trained to fly in low visibility conditions ahead of the cold season. Meanwhile, IndiGo has been fined ?1.2 crore after a viral video showed passengers eating on the tarmac as they waited for their delayed flight to take off in Mumbai. The DGCA has ordered Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport to pay ?30 lakh for the violation too.
