School Students Find E-Cigarettes, Cool
A NGO called Salaam Mumbai carried out a survey among school children. They found that 34% of the children are addicted to e-cigarettes.
An NGO called Salaam Mumbai Foundation carried out a survey of 4,300 students between the age of 12 to 17 years. Where the found that more than 34% of the children habitually use e-cigarettes. An E-cigarette is an electronic battery operated device, in which a person has to put a cartridge of liquid nicotine which the user will inhale.
The E-cigarette makes the person feel like they are smoking a cigarette. The only difference is that, instead of smoke they are inhaling vapors. In Mumbai e-cigarettes are also known as “Pen-Hookahs”. The are very cheap and only cost Rs 200 - Rs 500. These e-cigarettes are battery operated and the youngsters don’t mind buying the cartridge/refills as it only costs Rs 50.
The NGO’s survey revealed that many youngsters use this device often because it is considered “cool”. In the survey the children said that, they could easy save this amount from their pocket money and buy it from a paanwala or from any online website.
E-cigarettes are used to help chainsmokers gradually stop smoking. Recently there have been many doubts about the safety of e-cigarettes. Each cartridge/refill contains 10 mg [milligrams] of nicotine, which is very addictive. If children get addicted to nicotine at such a young age, they can continue smoking for life.
