Recently, the Rajasthan state assembly passed The Rajasthan Compulsory Registration Of Marriages (Amendment) Bill.

This bill was passed to amend an older law of 2009, regarding the registration of marriages.

The act of 2009 said that, to register a marriage, both the bride and groom should be of at least 21 years of age.

However the new change says that if the bride is under 18 and the groom is under 21, their parents must register the marriage within 30 days of marriage.

The government which is led by Congress has said that this was just a simple change to the older law.

The opposition believes that this law will now act as a support to child marriage. They staged a walkout from the assembly over the change and said Child marriage is a social evil, and should not be encouraged.
