Ranil Wickremesinghe Returns as PM of Sri Lanka

Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the president of Srilanka yesterday on 12th May, appointed senior political leader Ranil Wickremesinghe as the next Prime Minister of the country.

Sri Lanka is facing its worst economic crisis since gaining independence from Britishers in 1948. The Srilankan president’s brother, Mahinda Rajakapsa, resigned as the PM on Monday, 9th of May, after there were violent attacks by supporters of him on the peaceful anti-government protesters. Mahinda has since then escaped the capital Colombo and is hiding at the Trincomalee naval base. Now to end the violence and restore international stability someone needed to be appointed as the new Prime Minister of the country. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the president of Srilanka yesterday on 12th May, appointed senior political leader Ranil Wickremesinghe as the next Prime Minister of the country. He is 73 years old, a senior political leader and has been the PM 5 times.
