Punjab Policeman Run Over By Car

A person driving a car allegedly tried to run over a police officer in Punjab’s Patiala district on Saturday when the latter tried to stop the speeding vehicle for a routine check.

Before Independence Day a police officer ASI Suba Singh was checking vehicles in Patiala, Punjab. He signalled the driver of the speeding white car to stop for checking. Shockingly, the driver did not stop. He hit the police personnel and sped away. A video of the incident went viral on social media. In the video, the policeman can be seen trying to stop the car moving towards him. The driver, instead of stopping, can be seen hitting the policeman, who consequently falls on the road. The man zooms away as the injured cop lies on the road. The police officer is safe but has a fracture on his leg and is undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Police have initiated investigations into the case. The number plate of the car has been noted down and efforts were made to ascertain the identity of the driver. 

The police have traced the vehicle and said that it had a Haryana registration number. . The accused have been identified as Pyara Singh and Jobanpreet Singh. An FIR will be lodged in this case. Meanwhile, Punjab CM Amarinder Singh condemned the incident and said that strict action be initiated as soon as the culprits are identified.
