Narendra Modi Sworn into Second Term as Prime Minister
Narendra Modi takes oath and becomes the Prime Minister for the second time along with all his choices for cabinet ministers at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was sworn into office for the second time in front of nearly 8,000 people. In addition, all the members of his cabinet were also sworn into office. The event was held at Rashtrapati Bhavan and the ceremony started at 7:00 pm. President Ram Nath Kovind was present at the ceremony. There were many foreign leaders and key opposition were present at the ceremony as well. Rahul Gandhi and his mother Sonia Gandhi were present along with many Bollywood celebrities like, Karan Johar, Anupam Kher, Rajinikanth and Jeetendra.
There were 46 total ministers in the cabinet in 2014. This year it has risen to 58 total ministers. It is due to the BJP’s larger victory during this years elections. There will be 23 new members on the cabinet, with 28 ministers leaving their posts. 6 women make up the cabinet, the majority of members are between the ages of 51 and 70.Sushma Swaraj and Suresh Prabhu both high members in the BJP in 2014 were not selected this time around. S Jaishankar was a surprise pick but is in the good books of PM Modi as he had helped clear the nearly 10 year ban on his entry to the US.
