A 28-year-old man, Akash Maeen, was brutally beaten to death by a mob in a road rage incident in Mumbai after a confrontation with a rickshaw driver.

In a tragic case of road rage, a 28-year-old man named Akash Maeen was brutally beaten to death by a mob in Malad East, Mumbai, on 12th October 2024. Akash, who had recently shifted to Hyderabad with his pregnant wife Lavina, was visiting Mumbai for Navratri and was planning to gift a car to his parents on Dussehra.

The incident occurred when Akash and his wife were returning home after a delay in the delivery of their new car. While riding their bike, a rickshaw driver named Avinash Kadam dangerously overtook them, causing Akash to lose balance. When Akash confronted Kadam and asked him to drive carefully, the rickshaw driver started hurling abuses. Kadam then blocked Akash’s bike and further escalated the situation by pushing Lavina, who is seven months pregnant.

This led to a heated confrontation where other rickshaw drivers joined in and attacked Akash. Soon, Kadam called his friends, and a mob of 15-20 people brutally beat Akash with stones, tree branches, and other objects. Despite Lavina's attempts to stop the attackers and call for help, the violence continued. Akash's parents arrived at the scene but were also shoved aside when they tried to protect him.

A video of the assault went viral on social media, sparking outrage. According to witnesses, many bystanders took photos and videos but did not intervene to stop the attack. The police arrived after 25 minutes and warned the attackers that Akash might die if they continued. The mob fled the scene, and Akash was rushed to Balasaheb Thackeray Trauma Care Hospital in Jogeshwari East. Despite receiving treatment, he succumbed to his injuries a few hours later.

The police have arrested Kadam and nine others involved in the attack after reviewing CCTV footage. The accused have been charged with murder and are currently in police custody until 22nd October 2024. Akash’s mother, Deepali, is demanding strict punishment for the culprits. The police investigation is ongoing, and they are working to identify more attackers.

This shocking incident has left the Maeen family devastated and raised serious concerns about public safety and the rising cases of road rage in the city.
