More Ladies Special Trains Due to Rise in Female Passengers
Western Railways introduces services specially for women due to rise in female commuters.
40 Lakh women travel by the Western Railway [WR] every day. In the last 10 years, there has been a 42% increase in the number of female commuters. 30% of the people who travel by the WR are women. Most of these women are pass-holders who go to work.
The WR launched a Ladies special train on Christmas Day. This train will help carry 10,000 more women.The WR will launch more Ladies special trains in 2019 depending on the feedback from the passengers.
Aarti Singh Parihar, senior divisional commercial manager at WR said that, the number of women travelling by trains is increasing daily. These women have to be given comfort as well as safety during their journey.
The WR has carried out different programs to help the women feel safe.
