More ATVMS Instead of Ticket Windows at Railway Station
Western Railway increases ATVM machines and and reduces the number of ticket windows at Andheri and Borivali station.
Earlier at many railway stations, many ATVM machine which is short for Automatic Ticket Vending Machines were not working. Passengers used to stand in long queues at the ticket windows.
The ticket windows will be replaced by ATVM machine. It is a smart card that helps you book tickets at the station. The Western Railway wants the commuters to use the machines as well as the mobile app to book tickets.
From the 1st of January 2019, the Western Railway has decided to reduce the number of ticket windows at Andheri and Borivali station to reduce the burden on the ticket windows.
They have promised that most of the machines are working very well.Both these stations have 8 ticket windows. Of these only 4 will be operational. Currently 26 ATVM machines are present at both the two stations. The Western Railway has decided to add 3 more machines to each station.Currently the Western Railway has 370 ATVM machines and the Central Railway has 599 machines.
The Western Railway has selected Andheri and Borivali stations as they are the busiest stations. They want to force commuters to use these machines. Around 70,000 tickets are sold in Andheri and 60,000 tickets are sold in Borivali daily.
Passengers have welcomed this idea of the railways as it will help save time while travelling.
