‘Medicine from the Sky’ Launched in Telangana

In a new effort, drones will be used to deliver medicines and other medical essentials, to save time. Ambulances often get stuck in road traffic. Drones will soon replace them wherever possible.

The Telangana government launched a new idea called ‘Medicine from the Sky' 11th September. Its aim was to deliver medicines to far off village areas using drones.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiradtiya Scindia inaugurated the project in Vikarabad.

In Telangana there are 3 zones. Green Zone, Yellow Zone & Red Zone. Use of drones is allowed only in the Green Zone. In the Red & Yellow Zone people have to take permission from authorities and then they can use drones.

The project will be tested in 16 areas which are in the Green Zone.

The first drone delivered a five kg box of vaccine doses to a hospital located three kilometres away in 10 minutes.

The minister said, "For 3 months the drones will be used to deliver medicines and vaccines. After which the Health Ministry, IT Ministry, the Central Government and Telangana Government will analyse the data. If they feel it was successful they do this all over India.”

Through drones, we can save lives. It will help transport vaccines by avoiding traffic. These drones can cover 6 km in five minutes. Ambulances cause delay in delivering medicines and transplant organs as there are traffic jams. Through these drones, we will be able to transport blood, organs, medicines and vaccines faster.
