Man Throws Liquid at Arvind Kejriwal at Rally, Video Goes Viral

Arvind Kejriwal was attacked during a padyatra in Delhi, sparking a political blame game between AAP and BJP, with both parties accusing each other of orchestrating the incident.

In a shocking incident, Delhi's former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was attacked during his padyatra in Greater Kailash on 28th November 2024. A man threw a liquid at Kejriwal while he was interacting with the public around 6 pm. The quick action of Kejriwal’s security personnel prevented the situation from escalating, as they caught the attacker and prevented any harm.

The man, identified as 41-year-old Ashok Jha, works as a bus marshal at the Delhi Transport Corporation's Khanpur Depot. He was detained by the Delhi Police after the attack. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, showing Jha throwing the liquid and the subsequent chaos that followed.

While the liquid was confirmed to be harmless by the police on 1st December, it could have been dangerous, raising concerns about Kejriwal’s safety during public events. The Delhi Police are investigating the matter, but political leaders have already started pointing fingers at each other.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), led by Atishi Marlena, who became Delhi’s Chief Minister after Kejriwal’s resignation, immediately criticized the attack. The party took to social media and questioned the law and order situation in Delhi under the current BJP government. "If a former CM is not safe in the capital, where will the common man go?" AAP asked in a post on X (Twitter).

Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj further alleged that Jha had thrown spirit with the intention of setting Kejriwal on fire. He also accused Jha of being connected to the BJP, adding fuel to the political fire. "There are continuous attacks on Arvind Kejriwal. The law and order in Delhi have collapsed, and the central government is doing nothing," Bharadwaj said.

Later that night, Delhi CM Atishi Marlena shared a post accusing Jha of being a member of the BJP. She attached pictures of the incident and Jha’s alleged BJP membership card, further fueling the controversy.

This is not the first time Kejriwal has been attacked. According to reports, this was the third attack on him in just 35 days. He had previously been attacked during rallies in Nangloi and Chhatarpur in October 2024.

In a press conference on 1st December, Kejriwal condemned the attack and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah of promoting unethical politics in Delhi. He said that instead of arresting criminals, the BJP government was targeting AAP MLAs. Kejriwal’s comments added more tension to the political climate in the national capital.

The BJP, however, dismissed the claims. Delhi BJP President Virendraa Sachdeva called the incident a “political drama” and said that Jha was a local worker who was reportedly in an intoxicated state when the incident took place. BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor also criticized Kejriwal, accusing him of using the attack to gain sympathy ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, which are due early next year.

The BJP further requested the Delhi Police to conduct a thorough investigation and clarify the truth about the incident. They also denied any involvement in the attack, stating that their party does not engage in violence or threats in political campaigns.

As the investigation continues, the attack on Kejriwal has raised more questions than answers. The political blame game between AAP and BJP shows no sign of stopping, with both parties accusing each other of playing dirty politics.
