London: Hundreds of People Walk Around in Underwear
People in the underground trains in London were left in shock as hundreds of people boarded the subway without their trousers, let us tell you why?
Imagine you are traveling by metro or a local train and you see a whole group of people boarding the train without trousers or wearing just underwear? Well, this is happening for real. Yes, you heard that right, people in the underground trains in London were left in shock as hundreds of people boarded the subway without their trousers. Men and women both were seen without their trousers. But it was not random. People in London boarded the tube without their trousers or skirts to recognise the No Trousers Tube Ride Day. Pictures of people posing in their underwear on the train flooded the social media platforms. Many even went to work in just their winter jackets and no pants!
However, the idea was taken from New York, USA, where people started the No Pants Subway Ride back in 2002. The idea was started by Improv Everywhere, the comedic performance art group and it occurred every January in New York City from 2002 to 2020. However, for 2 years it has been cancelled. And the agenda was just to make people laugh. “There is no agenda for the event apart from a desire to make others laugh and smile," the founder of the event said. They added, “Two decades ago, there were only seven participants, all of whom were men. They pretended not to notice each other and, if asked, claimed that they just forgot their pants.”
The mission grew into an international celebration of silliness, with dozens of cities around the world participating each year. Riders participated all over the world, like Tokyo. The Moscow ride drew attention from local police, who called in the organizer for questioning a few days later. He was released without charges. Now this event has made its way to London, where the Stiff Upper Lip Society adopted the idea and organized the event. The founder of The Stiff Upper Lip Society, Ivan Markovic, said it was not to raise money but just to make people smile. “We're not raising money, we're not raising awareness–we're just creating a moment.
