FREE Health Check-Up Camp for Deaf Community in Mumbai
Signing Hands Foundation is hosting a free, ISL-supported health check-up camp for the Deaf community in Mumbai with full medical tests and guidance.
A free health check-up camp specially designed for the Deaf community in Mumbai is being organised by the Signing Hands Foundation in collaboration with ISH News. The initiative aims to make healthcare accessible through Indian Sign Language (ISL) interpreters, helping Deaf individuals communicate directly with doctors and understand their health clearly.
Over the past year, ISH News has created accessible health content on topics such as obesity, diabetes, menstruation and cancer. Many Deaf individuals shared that they face difficulties during medical visits due to the lack of ISL interpretation. This camp has been specially planned to address that gap by providing medical consultations, guidance and full support through interpreters and Deaf volunteers.
Participants can undergo multiple health tests free of cost, including basic fitness checks like body temperature, height, weight and Body Mass Index (BMI). Blood-related tests such as Complete Blood Count, blood pressure, blood oxygen level and blood sugar testing will also be available. The camp will offer cholesterol and vitamin profile testing, bone density assessment, thyroid screening, ECG, eye check-up and nutrition evaluation. Women participants will also have access to breast cancer screening conducted by female doctors. After the tests, participants will receive their reports along with guidance from doctors and dieticians.
The health camps will take place on two dates. The first camp will be held on Sunday, 8 March, from 8 AM to 3 PM at the Ali Yavar Jung National Institute of Speech and Hearing Disabilities. The second camp will be held on Sunday, 15 March, from 8 AM to 3 PM at K.V.K. Sarvajanik School.
A total of 400 Deaf individuals can attend, with 200 participants allowed at each location. Registration is compulsory, and each person may attend only one camp. The organisers have clarified that the camp is only for Deaf individuals.
