Kenya: Vampire, Serial Killer of 42 Women Escapes from Jail
Serial killer Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, who confessed to murdering 42 women, escaped from Nairobi police custody along with 12 other inmates, prompting a major manhunt.
Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, a 33-year-old resident of Nairobi, was arrested on 15th July 2024 after police found 10 dismembered bodies and several body parts stuffed in plastic bags near a police station in the Kware area during anti-government protests. Khalusha, who later confessed to killing and mutilating 42 women, including his wife, has now escaped from police custody along with 12 other inmates.
Khalusha, known as the "Vampire" due to his horrific crimes, admitted to luring, murdering, and dismembering women between 2022 and his arrest. Police found evidence at his residence, including a machete, industrial rubber gloves, and victims' mobile phones and identity cards, suggesting that his actions were cold and calculated.
Despite the overwhelming evidence, Khalusha's lawyer maintains his client's innocence, claiming that he was tortured into confessing. However, the police described Khalusha as a "psychopathic serial killer with no respect for human life."
On the morning of 20th August 2024, Khalusha and 12 other inmates managed to escape police custody by cutting through wire mesh in their cells and scaling the perimeter wall. The escape was discovered when the officer in charge and the canteen manager went to serve breakfast at around 5 am.
The Nairobi Police called the jailbreak an "unfortunate" incident and have launched a major manhunt to find the escaped prisoners. This is the second time in less than six months that a high-profile suspect has escaped from Nairobi Police custody, raising concerns about police involvement in the jailbreak. Kenya's Independent Police Oversight Authority is now investigating the incident.
As the manhunt continues, Nairobi residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
