Johnson & Johnson accused of Using Harmful Chemicals

A Rajasthan government laboratory, has found that Johnson and Johnson baby shampoo, contains harmful chemicals.

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has said the test report had found formaldehyde in two batches of the company’s baby shampoo. Formaldehyde is known to be a carcinogen. A carcinogen is a cancer causing substance.

NCPCRhas written to the chief secretaries of all states and Union territories, and have them to stop the sale of the shampoo and remove it from the stocks.

Johnson & Johnson said that have confirmed with Indian authorities that they do not add formaldehyde as an ingredient in their shampoo, and neither does any other ingredient in the shampoo give out formaldehyde over time. Johnson and Johnson said that they assure that their products are safe, and that they meet and exceed safety standards in every country where their products are sold.

The company said that they strictly followed Indian regulatory requirements and standards for manufacturing and testing of all their products. They also said that the reports of the government’s test was based on unknown and unspecified methods, and that they are waiting for the central drugs laboratory to retest the samples.
