Jaipur: Kidnapper & Kid Cry on Being Separated by the Police
A viral video shows a kidnapped 2-year-old boy emotionally clinging to his kidnapper, sparking mixed reactions online.
A surprising and emotional video has gone viral on the internet, showing a 2-year-old boy named Prithvi, lovingly called "Kukku," crying and refusing to be separated from his kidnapper, Tanuj Chahar. The video, shared widely on social media, has left people shocked and moved. The story behind the video is equally emotional. Tanuj Chahar, a 33-year-old suspended head constable from Uttar Pradesh's Reserve Police Lines, was in a relationship with a woman named Poonam Chaudhary. They lived together in Aligarh, but the relationship ended when Poonam's family objected, and she left the city. Later, Tanuj found out that Poonam had married someone else and had a son, Prithvi. Believing Prithvi to be his own son, Tanuj begged Poonam to run away with him and Prithvi to Uttar Pradesh, but she refused. In an attempt to force Poonam to be with him, Tanuj abducted Prithvi from outside his home in Jaipur on 14th July 2023, when the boy was just 11 months old. Tanuj went on the run, disguising himself as a sadhu, traveling through cities like Mathura, Agra, and Vrindavan, all while caring for Prithvi. Over time, the bond between them grew stronger, and Prithvi began to see Tanuj as a father figure. After 14 months, on 27th August 2024, the Jaipur Police finally caught up with Tanuj in Aligarh and arrested him. However, the reunion with the police was not what one might expect. In the viral video, Prithvi can be seen clinging to Tanuj, crying loudly, and refusing to let go. Even Tanuj became emotional during the separation. The police had to gently separate the two, and even after being handed over to his mother, Poonam, Prithvi continued to cry for Tanuj. Currently, Tanuj is in police custody, still claiming that Prithvi is his son, while Poonam has firmly denied any further connection with him. The video was posted on X (Twitter) by journalist Rishabh Rajput, who captioned it, "A surprising video from Jaipur shows a kidnapped child reunited with police, but instead of being happy, the child hugs the kidnapper and cries. The kidnapper also gets emotional. This scene is complicated and raises questions about how people form connections and deal with difficult situations." The video has sparked mixed reactions online, with people expressing various emotions about the unique bond between the child and his kidnapper.
