Internet & Landlines Partially Restored in J&K

Since the revocation of Article 370 on 4th August, there has been a coomunication blackout in Jammu Kashmir. Now the stringent rules have been relaxed with restoration of internet and telephone servic

Before the Government announced the cancellation of Article 370 and dividing J&K into two union territories, it sent the armed forces to the state to deal with any problems. Since 4th August, residents were forced to remain indoors, internet and telephone services have been shut as well. People of J&K had no way of contacting anyone. Many people were not happy with these decisions. The BJP government defended its decision by saying that these strict rules were very important to make sure that people of J&K are safe and prevent any violent protests. They also said that they had information that Pakistani terrorists wanted to create trouble in J&K. The rules prevented fatalties.

The government has now relaxed the strict rules. 17 out of over 100 telephone exchanges were made functional in Kashmir on Saturday. This means more than 50,000 landlines are now operating. Mobile internet services were restored in five districts of Jammu region. Schools and government offices re-opened on Saturday
