International Courts Stops Indian Spy’s Death Sentence

In a massive victory, the International Court of Justice has final suspended the Pakistan’s Military Court death penalty on the alleged Indian Spy Kulbhushan Jadhav.

Kulbhushan Sudhir Jadhav is an Indian national. 3 March 2016 the Pakistani government said that he was arrested in the Balochistan, Pakistan on charges of terrorism and spying for India. Pakistan informed India about his arrest only on March 25, 2016. They never gave a reason why they informed India so late. India said that he was retired naval officer and was not working with the military at all. The Vienna Convention are international laws that must be followed by countries in the world.

Pakistan broke many of these laws. Pakistan did not inform him about his rights and did not allow Indian officials to visit him as well. The case was carried out in Pakistan’s Military Court and not a civilian court. Kilbhushan was not even allowed to choose his own lawyer as well. On 10 April 2017, Pakistan’s Military court sentenced him to death. India then appealed to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and on 18 May 2017 they stopped his stopped his execution. India fought in the ICJ to stop Kulbhushan’s death penalty. India argued that pakistan had not followed International rules and it was an extreme injustice. Yesterday on 17th July 2019 finally, the ICJ in Hague, Netherlands suspend the execution and will review the case further. They have ordered Pakistan to allow Kulbhushan to talk to Indian officials as well.  PM Narendra Modi said that finally there is truth and justice. He was very happy with the ICJ’s decision and said that India will work hard to get justice.
