India Wins 61 Medals in the Commonwealth Games 2022
With the brilliant performance of the Indian Athletes, India has managed to secure the 4th Position in the Commonwealth Games 2022.
Commonwealth Games (CWG) were going on in Birmingham, England from 28th July to 8th August 2022. Earlier ISH News had released a video about the number of medals won by India. At that time India had won only 6 medals. You can check out the link here.
Let us tell you a brief history of the Commonwealth Games. The Games were called the British Empire Games and started in the year 1930. Then they were called the British Empire and Commonwealth Games. Later as British Commonwealth Games and then finally in 1976 as the Commonwealth games. These games are played every 4 years among athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations. The Commonwealth of Nations is a political association of 56 member states (countries), the vast majority of which are former territories of the British Empire. Member states have no legal obligations to one another but are connected through their historical ties. These countries were ruled by the Britishers and share the same history of oppression. Even after these countries have gained independence, they are still together as they want to encourage democracy, human rights, development, etc. Some of the countries in the Commonwealth of Nations are India, Pakistan, Nigeria, England, Australia, Canada, etc.
After 75 years of independence, India has won 61 medals in this year's CWG. What an achievement! We are 4th on the medals table and at par with countries like Canada and New Zealand. With this heroic performance on the final day, India in total has won 61 Medals including 22 Gold Medals, 16 Silver Medals & 23 Bronze Medals. Medals were won in Wrestling, boxing, weight lifting, badminton, lawn balls, table tennis, long jump, judo, hockey, women’s cricket, etc. Australia has topped the list with a total number of 178 Medals followed by the host England (2nd) with 176 medals. Canada has also performed well throughout the tournament and has secured the 3rd position in the medal list with 92 medals.
Hearty Congratulations to all the winners.
