Gunmen Threaten Lionel Messi Saying We Are Waiting For You

2 unidentified gunmen fired bullets at Lionel Messi’s wife’s supermarket and left a threatening note for Messi.

In Argentina’s Rosario city, on the intervening night of 1st and 2nd March, in the dead of night at around 3am, two men came on a bike and fired 14 bullet shots at a closed supermarket.  The supermarket belongs to the family of Lionel Messi's wife. After firing the shots, the gunmen left a threatening message on the ground aimed at Messi. The handwritten note said, "Messi, we're waiting for you. Pablo Javkin, the mayor of Rosario is also a drug trafficker, so he won't take care of you." Pablo Javkin is the mayor of Messi's hometown, Rosario, where the supermarket is located.  This is the first time Messi's family has been threatened in such a manner.  Though Messi doesn’t live in Rosario, he often comes to the town to meet his relatives. Since it was an earlier morning attack, no one was injured.
Meanwhile, Javkin attacked Argentina police authorities over their failure to curb a surge in drug-related violence in Rosario. We have police operating in Rosario yet they can do this because no one is chasing them.  Rosario has gradually become a nerve center for drug trafficking and the most violent city in Argentina, with 287 murders in 2022. Police authorities are reviewing security camera footage. However, a police officer said that the message was "not a threat" but rather an attempt to "attract attention." Messi and his wife have not yet commented on the incident.
