Facebook May Pay Record Fine for Privacy Violation

Facebook may have to pay a record fine for violating privacy laws in America.

The US Federal Trade Commission [FTC] may impose a very big fine on Facebook. This is due to a leak in the personal data of 2.2 Billion Facebook users. They have broken multiple privacy laws in America.

According to the FTC’s investigation a company called Cambridge analytica was responsible for the leaked data of over 87 million Facebook users. Last month Facebook blamed the leak of 7 million Facebook user’s photos on a software glitch.

The FTC has ordered Facebook to be transparent about their privacy settings. They are ordered the social media to obtain the user’s consent before they share any data.

The FTC’s five commissioners have decided to fine Facebook, but they have zeroed in on a number yet. Earlier, Google was asked to pay a fine of $22.5 million dollars. The fine on Facebook will definitely be higher.

The Facebook’s privacy problems are being investigated by countries all over the world.
