Deaf Girl Commits Suicide in Kolkata

A Deaf first year student named Nidhi Poddar aged 18 committed suicide by jumping off a building as she was unable to understand her online classes.

A Deaf first year student named Nidhi Poddar (18) who stayed in West Bengal’s Lake Town on S K Deb Road committed suicide by jumping off a building. 

According to the police, Nidhi had left her home in the evening to buy noodles around 8.30pm.

Her parents were alerted by a friend, an hour later about Nidhi’s WhatsApp status. In her status she had said that she is committing suicide and apoligised to her parents for leaving them. Her parents got scared and immediately started calling her phone. But Nidhi’s phone was switched off. Her parents then reached the Lake Town police station by 10.15pm and pleaded with the cops to find her.

The police agreed to lodge the complaint, while they were writing down the complaint, they received information from a resident of Bangur Avenue about a young girl lying on the road with severe injuries on her face. The local told the police that he had heard a loud thud and saw the girl on the road. The girl was still breathing and the locals took her to a nearby hospital but the time they reached the hospital, the girl was dead. 

Police said they have found the girl’s shoes, spectacles, the suicide note and her hearing aid on the terrace of the building from which she jumped. In the suicide note she apologised to her parents and friends and said that she can’t understand her online classes which is why is suffering and decided to end her life.  The parents allegedly confirmed the handwriting is of their daughter.  Police have confirmed that she died because of the fall and her parents have demanded a full inquiry.
