Cricketer Yuvraj Singh Arrested & Released on Bail

Former cricketer Yuvraj Singh was briefly arrested and then released on bail in Haryana.

In June 2020 Cricketers Rohit Sharma & Yuvraj Singh had both gone live on Instagram. The two cricketers were discussing & making fun of Yuzvendra Chahal's TikTok videos. Rajat Kalsan a resident of Hansi, Haryana and a Dalit activist saw the video and became very angry at Yuvraj. According to Kalsan, Singh had used a casteist slur against the Dailit Community which Chahal belongs to. Many others were also extremely angry at Yuvraj’s comments. After the incident Yuvraj posted a statement on his official Twitter handle. He said, "While I was having a conversation with my friends, I was misunderstood. It was never my intention to insult any community. If I have unintentionally hurt anybody's sentiments or feelings, I am very sorry. I love India and all its people. However, as a responsible Indian I want to say that if I have unintentionally hurt anybody's sentiments or feelings, I would like to express regret for the same. My love for India and all its people is eternal,

Kalsan in February 2021 filed a complaint against Yuvraj Singh. Almost a year later On 16 October, Yuvraj Singh who was staying in Chandigarh, reached Hansi and appeared before the police. Singh was accompanied by four to five staffers, his security personnel. The cricketer was questioned by the police for 2-3 hours after which he was arrested but he was immediately released on bail. The case will start in the SC/ST court in Hansi where Yuvraj will have to attend the hearing. The court will decide if Yuvraj was wrong and what punishment to give him.
