BJP Wins Big In Maharashtra; Congress Wins Jharkhand

The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance won a big victory in Maharashtra, while the INDI Alliance, led by Hemant Soren, triumphed in Jharkhand's elections.

On 23rd November 2024, the results for the Maharashtra and Jharkhand elections were declared, bringing big changes to both states.

After a weak performance in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, many people wondered if the BJP could recover. However, in the Maharashtra elections, the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance (MYA) has shown a strong comeback. The alliance, which includes BJP, Shivsena (led by Eknath Shinde), and NCP (led by Ajit Pawar), won an impressive 236 seats out of 288.

To form the government, 145 seats are needed, and the Mahayuti alliance easily crossed that mark. This shows that people in Maharashtra trust the BJP-led group to lead the state.

On the other hand, the Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, which includes NCP (led by Sharad Pawar), Shivsena (led by Uddhav Thackeray), and Congress, only won 46 seats. The remaining seats were won by other smaller parties and independent candidates.

The victory for the Mahayuti alliance is being seen as a result of more people turning out to vote this year. According to the Election Commission of India, 65.11% of people voted in Maharashtra, the highest turnout since 1995.

A big reason for the higher voter turnout is the "Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana" scheme, where the government gave ?1500 to more than 2 Crore women in Maharashtra. This encouraged many women to vote.

In addition, the rallies held by Yogi Adityanath and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a strong impact on the voters. Yogi Adityanath raised a slogan in his rally, "Batoge toh katoge" (If you divide, you will be cut), asking Hindus to be cautious of Congress’s policies. Prime Minister Modi also gave a powerful message, saying "Ek rahoge toh safe rahoge" (If you stay united, you will be safe), urging people to avoid divisive politics.

In Jharkhand, the results were quite different. The INDI Alliance, led by Chief Minister Hemant Soren and his party JMM, won a huge victory. The alliance secured 56 out of 81 seats, while the BJP-led NDA only managed to win 24 seats.

This win is historic because it is the first time in 24 years that an alliance is forming the government for two consecutive terms. The people of Jharkhand showed strong support for the INDI Alliance.

The voter turnout in Jharkhand was also impressive, with 67.74% of voters casting their votes in the two-phase election, the highest turnout since the state was formed in 2000.

Earlier this year, in January, Chief Minister Hemant Soren was caught up in a big controversy when reports said he was missing. These reports became a big topic of discussion across India. However, according to the latest reports, Hemant Soren is all set to take oath as the Chief Minister of Jharkhand once again on 28th November 2024.

The Maharashtra elections saw a big win for the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance, while in Jharkhand, the INDI Alliance, led by Hemant Soren, came out on top. With a historic win in Jharkhand and a powerful comeback in Maharashtra, these elections have shown the changing political landscape of India.
