Bhim Army Chief Suffers Bullet Injury

In a shocking incident, Chandrashekhar Azad, the national president of the Bhim Army, was shot in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur district.

Bhim Army is a Dalit activist group. Chandrashekhar Azad Ravan is the founder and chief of the Bhim Army. In March 2020, Chandrashekhar officially announced his new political party named Azad Samaj Party. 

On 28th June 2023, Chandrashekhar Azad Ravan in UP’s Saharanpur for an event. The Bhim Army chief was travelling in a Toyota Fortuner. This is when his convoy was fired at by a few car-borne armed men. Two bullets were fired at Azad's car. The first bullet passed through the door and entered the seat of the vehicle while grazing Azad at the waist. The second bullet hit the back door, narrowly missing him. He is alright and was taken to CHC for medical treatment. Aazad told the police that his people had identified the assailants. He said, “Their car went towards Saharanpur. We took a U-Turn. Five of us, including my younger brother, were in the car when the incident occurred.” Some reports claim that the shooters drove a vehicle with a Haryana license plate.
Photographs of an injured Azad were shared on his Facebook account, with the post also asking the police to take “strict action” against the culprits and provide security to him. Superintendent of Police (City) Abhimanyu Manglik said “I met and spoke with Azad, he is feeling better now. I had a word with his doctor also, and he told me that Azad's vitals are stable and will be discharged in a day after check-up. Probe is going on, we are on the lookout for the accused and they will be arrested soon."
