Actor R Madhavan on 15th June shared a heartwarming story about 'values' shown by a Spanish racer in competition with a Kenyan racer. Abel Mutai from Kenya was just a few feet away from the finish line but he was confused with the signage and stopped. Spanish racer Ivan Fernandez was just behind him. Ivan immediately realized that Abel was confused and started yelling to tell Abel that he should keep running. But, since Abel did not speak Spanish, he could not understand what Ivan was saying. So Ivan 'pushed him to victory'. Thus Abel won the match! After the race when a journalist asked Ivan the reason why he supported Kenyan racer and 'let him win'. Ivan replied that he did not 'let' him win as Abel was anyways 'going to win'. The journalist further pushed Ivan to speak. After this Ivan looked at the journalist and said, ‘I could have won but what would be the merit of my victory? What would be the honour of that medal? What would my mom think of that? Would my country feel proud?” Madhavan shared this entire story and added a note, “Values are transmitted from generation to generation. What values we teach our children today will help them survive tomorrow. Let us not teach our kids the wrong ways and means to win. Just a thought. Think about it.” Madhavan had tagged Ivan in the story and Ivan himself shared the post and expressed disbelief and attached an emoticon of 'shock'. Thousands of internet users said that Madhavan's post was much needed. According to one Instagram user, this is the kind of humanity we need today more than luxury or any other thing.
