8-Year-Old Daughter of a Gujarati Businessman Becomes Monk
In an extremely surprising event an eight-year-old daughter of a wealthy diamond merchant in Gujarat has sacrificed material comforts and has turned herself into a monk.
In today’s world, everyone is fascinated by materialistic objects like a big house, a big car, an expensive mobile phone and a lot many other things right from our childhood days. However, now in an extremely surprising event, an eight-year-old daughter of a wealthy diamond merchant in Gujarat has sacrificed material comforts and has turned herself into a monk. The name of the eight-year-old girl is Devanshi Sanghvi, and she took her diksha in Surat yesterday on 18th of January. Devanshi is the eldest of the two daughters of Dhanesh Sanghvi and his wife, Ami. Her family runs Sanghvi and Sons, one of the world's oldest diamond companies.
Upon reaching adulthood, Devanshi would have inherited a multi-crore diamond business. But instead of inheriting the business, the eight-year-old girl sacrificed her luxury lifestyle to embrace monkhood. A day before she took diksha, a grand procession with camels, elephants, horses and great fanfare was organized in the city. Her family had earlier organized a similar march in Belgium, a country that is home to several diamond traders from the Jain community. Before she was chosen for 'diksha', Devanshi walked over 600 km with monks and learnt to live the difficult life of a monk. Since early childhood, Devanshi had lived a simple life, praying three times a day just like other family members. Unlike other children of her age, Devanshi never watched TV or movies and never went to restaurants or attended marriages. She has participated in 367 diksha events so far. Moreover, it is also that despite owning a huge business set-up, the family lives a simple life.
