8 Dead in Russia at Perm University Shooting
Russian law enforcement neutralised a gunman who went on a rampage at Perm State University (PSU) in Perm, killing eight people and injuring at least 28.
On 20 September 2021 at 11am, at the Perm State University (PSU) in the city of Perm in Russia, a gunman walked into the university and then went crazy as he started shooting the students at the university. 3,000 people were on the campus at the time of the shooting. Some students & teachers locked themselves in university auditoriums, classrooms, etc. to hide from the attacker. Some students jumped out of the windows. Videos shared on social media appear to show an armed person dressed in black and wearing a helmet, slowly walking across the campus with a gun in his hand. A traffic police unit was the first to reach the university and the man opened fire on them as well. The traffic police fired at him in return and somehow managed to wound him and stop him from firing.
The gunman had been identified as an 18-year-old student at the university. 8 people died in the shooting while many sustained injuries. All Indian students at the university are safe and not hurt. According to officials the boy had posted a picture on social media of himself posing with a rifle, helmet and ammunition on social media and said that he always dreamt of shooting people and will fulfill his dream soon. The gunman was alone and said he had no political or religious motives. Although firearms (gun, rifle, etc) laws are strict in Russia, many people obtain permits for hunting weapons. According to news reports the boy had a license to own a gun. In May, a gunman opened fire at a school in the city of Kazan, killing seven students and two teachers, with a registered weapon.
