4 Men & 1 Woman Assault Northeast Girl in Viral Video

Bengaluru Police arrest individuals who assaulted a Bangladeshi woman in a viral video.

A bone-chilling video of a young woman, believed to be from the northeast, getting allegedly raped and assaulted has gone viral on social media. The disturbing video, which has been widely circulated on social media, shows the woman getting purportedly raped and thrashed by five people, including another lady. The five people even stripped the victim naked and continued assaulting her in the video while she cried out for help. Several reports have claimed that the video is of a Nagaland woman, who committed suicide in Rajasthan's Jodhpur on May 23.  Union sports minister and Lok Sabha MP from Arunachal Pradesh Kiren Rijiju said, "The viral video of a girl from Northeast being brutally raped and tortured by four men and one women is not related to the Jodhpur suicide case. I had a detailed discussion with the Police Commissioner of Jodhpur. However, there must be all out efforts to catch the devils," he tweeted. On 27th May the Assam Police Tweeted and said, “These images are of five culprits who are seen brutally torturing and violating a young girl in a viral video. The time or place of this incident is not clear. Anyone with information regarding this crime or the criminals may please contact us. They will be rewarded handsomely. Though it is not clear where and when this incident took place, and it may not be from Assam, we are trying hard to find the culprits.”

Because of the Assam Police’s tweet, the Bengaluru Police has arrested the 4 men in the video along with 2 other women. They have been taken to the Ramamurthy Nagar Police Station in Bengaluru. A case of rape and assault has been filed against them. The police said the incident happened last week. The 5 people are Bangladesh nationals. The victim was also a Bangladesh National and was a victim of Human Trafficking. All including victim are illegal immigrants from Bangladesh reportedly involved in prostitution. The Bengaluru police said the woman is currently in another state and a team has been sent to fetch her. Once she is back, her statement will be recorded.

Meanwhile in Bangladesh, Deputy Commissioner of Police from Tejgaon, Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Md. Sahidullah said that the victim in the video has been identified as a resident of Dhaka, Bangladesh. Reportedly, the girl was getting all her documents ready for the past few months in order to travel to Saudi Arabia, but went missing around three months ago. Bangladesh authorities suspected the girl was staying in India. An investigation is going on.
