Natural Remedies to Remove Rats & Mice From Home?

Natural remedies like mint oil, chili flakes, onions, garlic, and bay leaves can help deter and eliminate rats at home.

Having your home invaded by rats and mice is nothing short of a nightmare, especially because these rodents can hide and run anywhere, destroy everything that comes their way, and cause diseases.

And while you may have rat traps in place, many natural and home remedies can be just as effective to chase them away, until of course, you book an appointment with pest control.

1. Mint oil

Rats can't stand the strong scent of mint oil, which is why it helps keep them away. All you have to do is, take a small piece of cotton and dip it in some mint oil.

Now rub it at all possible nooks and crannies in your home, especially in rat-infested regions like pipes and drains. Repeat this remedy multiple days a week.

2. Red Chilli flakes

Rats are averse to the scent of chili flakes.  It is known to affect their breathing, and if they accidentally ingest it, it can be lethal. Simply sprinkle some chilli flakes at all the corners and hideouts of your home.

3. Onions

Although this home remedy could just be a little painstaking, it is undoubtedly effective in chasing those irksome rodents away. Again, rats can't tolerate the pungent smell of onions, which is why you can place a few slices in all the places where they can be active.

However, you have to replace these slices with fresh ones every two days since they can rot.

4. Garlic

It is easy to use as you simply either have to place some garlic cloves or prepare a solution of garlic and water and then spray it at potential entry points for these pests. You can repeat this process multiple times a week.

5. Bay leaves

Unlike all the remedies listed above, bay leaves attract rats as they tend to think that it is something they can munch on.

However, just when they eat it, they choke on this spice and die within a few minutes. Just place a few small pieces of bay leaves around your house and see how it works.
