This Independence Day, here is a quick quiz on India's national symbols and interesting facts.
India's National Flag is the Tiranga, with saffron, white and green stripes and the Ashoka Chakra in the centre. The National Emblem is the Lion Capital of Ashoka, with the motto "Satyameva Jayate" (Truth Alone Triumphs).
The National Animal is the Royal Bengal Tiger, while the National Bird is the Indian Peacock. The National Flower is the Lotus, and the National Tree is the Banyan Tree.
India's National River is the Ganga, and the National Aquatic Animal is the Ganges River Dolphin, which was declared the national aquatic animal in 2009.
Many people believe Hockey is India's national sport, but India has no officially declared national sport. Similarly, India has no national language. Hindi and English are the official languages of the Central Government, and the Constitution recognises 22 Scheduled Languages.
Another surprising fact is that India has no official national drink. Although tea is the country's most popular beverage, it has never been declared the national drink.
