6 Places Where The Sun Never Sets!

A few unique places around the globe where the sun never sets & the science behind it

We are quite used to  a balanced routine of 12 hrs day and Night of around equal duration & Right from our sleep cycle to our working hours everything depends on Days and nights, but what if we tell you there are 6 such countries in the world where there are days but there are no nights.

Yes you heard it right , Norway, Finland, Sweden, Iceland, and Even a part of Canada & US are among some very rare places on earth where it never goes dark consecutively for around a few months.

  1. Norway- Starting from Norway, It is a country located in the Arctic Circle popularly known as “The land of Midnight Sun”. Since Svalbard, which is a city in Norway which is also the northernmost town on earth, there the sun shines continuously from April 10 to August 23.

  1. Finland- Finland is a country located in northern europe, which gets to see the sun straight for just 73 days during summers. During this time, the sun continues to shine for around 73 days, whereas, during the winter time, this region sees no sunlight which later works as a compensation for the endless days by replacing them with endless nights.

  2. Sweden: From early May until late August, Sweden sees the sun setting at around midnight and rising at around 4 AM in the country. This duration lasts  for up to six months of a year.

  3. Iceland: Iceland is Europe’s largest island after Britain. During summers the nights are quite clear/bright in the island. In the month of June, the sun shines as bright as it shines in during the peak noon hours.

  4. Nunavut, Canada- Nunavut is located near the Arctic Circle, in the Northwest Territories of Canada. This place sees around two months of 24X7 sunlight, whereas during winters, the place sees around 30 consecutive days of total darkness, for 3 consecutive months the country experiences extreme conditions of either 24Hr days or either 24Hr nights.

  5. Alaska, USA- From late May to late July, the sun actually does not set here. Alaska, which is a state located in northern America, experiences bright sunny nights for this 2 month duration which is later changed from the beginning of November for the next 30 days, when  the sun does not rise at all and the country undergoes 30 full days of complete darkness.

By now reading about these weird yet unique places your mind might have already reached a fantasy tale, but coming aside the dream world there is actually a science behind these places with endless days.

If you have not already noticed, every country which is mentioned above is either located inside the arctic circle or is at least somewhere around it.

Now directly jumping on to the concepts of days & night, We experience day and night as the earth revolves around the sun. During the revolution process the parts which face the sun experience day time while the other parts which  fall on the opposite side experience nights which are peaceful and dark at the same time.

And during the times of Summers these regions are completely inclined towards the Sun because of their geographical location and the fact that earth revolves at an angle of 23.5 degrees, so, even when earth completes its full revolution these six places never get a chance to escape away from the sunlight for a few consecutive days and that's what ultimately results in the days that never ends.

Now understanding the concepts behind the endless days experienced by some countries and places, How thrilled are you to learn the science behind these unique yet amazing scientific facts?
