Gold Medalist Sanjita Chanu's Ban Lifted

International Weightlifting Federation revokes Sanjita Chanu’s ban.

Khumukcham Sanjita Chanu had won a gold medal in the women’s 53 kg category at the April 2018 Commonwealth Games held in Gold Coast, Australia. At the World Championship in November 2017, urine sample was taken from her. Anabolic steroid testosterone was found in her urine samples.  

These are hormones which athletes consume to increase their muscle and strength. In May 2018, she was put on a temporary suspension.

On 22 January, the International  Weightlifting lifted her ban.In Gold Coast, Sanjita set a new Commonwealth record. She was able to lift 84 kg and 108 kg in a clean and jerk. She finished with a total of 192 kg.
