The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) elected its first-ever Muslim woman mayor on January 18. Her name is  Tasneem Banu and she is 31-years-old. She is MCC's youngest mayor and a mother of two.This has happened for the first time in 158-years.She became the mayor because she got 67 out of 70 votes. Tasneem is from the Janata Dal political party. They are supported by the Congress. She first joined politics in 2013.

Tasneem now intends to work towards making Mysuru clean so that the state of Bengaluru can become the cleanest State in India. She said that right now ranks 3rd in the Swachh Survekshan’s list of the cleanest cities in India. Tasneem said her priority is to get the first rank and make Mysuru the cleanest city in india.
