Man Kidnaps and Bombs Ex-Girlfriend to ‘Die Together’: Woman Survives, Man Burnt to Death

A cab driver’s quick action saved a kidnapped woman after her former partner allegedly stabbed her and died in a crude bomb explosion during an apparent murder-suicide attempt.

A 30-year-old man, Nagendra, died in a crude bomb explosion after allegedly kidnapping and attacking his former partner, 24-year-old Ramya Nayak, in Karnataka.

The two had been in a relationship for about six years but broke up after Ramya refused to marry him. According to police, Nagendra continued to harass and threaten her. About 18 months ago, Ramya moved from Ankola to Bengaluru to escape him, but Nagendra reportedly followed her there a month ago.

On the morning of 27 June 2026, Nagendra allegedly went to Ramya's rented house in Bengaluru, threatened her and her roommate with a knife, and forcibly took Ramya away in a cab. Her roommate immediately alerted the police.

Using CCTV footage, police tracked the taxi and contacted the driver, Praveen, asking him to stop at the nearest police station. Police believe Nagendra overheard the conversation and told Ramya, "Let's die together."

According to investigators, Nagendra showed Ramya crude bombs before allegedly stabbing her with a knife, causing minor injuries. He then attempted to ignite one of the bombs.

Realising the danger, the cab driver stopped the vehicle on the Pune Highway in Tumakuru district and helped Ramya escape. He also tried to rescue Nagendra and managed to remove one crude bomb, but a second bomb exploded inside the taxi, setting it on fire. Nagendra died at the scene.

Ramya was treated in hospital and discharged the following day. Police confirmed that a kidnapping case had already been registered after her family reported that she had been forcibly taken away.

Forensic teams are investigating the explosion, including the type of explosive used, how it detonated, and where Nagendra obtained the crude bombs.
