Zomato Delivery Boy Says He Did Not Punch Woman

Zomato Delivery refutes allegations of punching made by Bengaluru Influencer Hitesha Chandranee.

A day after a Bengaluru woman named Hitesha Chandranee accused the Zomato delivery executive of assaulting her which left her nose bleeding in a video, the person in question has denied all her claims.

In an interview with The News Minute, the delivery person named Kamaraj, said, "After I reached her apartment door, I handed her the food and I was expecting her to pay me (as she had opted for cash on delivery mode of payment). I also apologized since the delivery was delayed due to traffic and bad roads. But she was very rude from the outset. She asked me ‘Why are you late?’ I replied apologetically. But she kept on insisting that the order has to be delivered within 45-50 minutes. She took the food, refused to pay and said that she is talking to Zomato chat support. I continuously pleaded with her to pay the bill but she called me a 'slave'. After this, the Zomato support told me that the order has been cancelled, but the woman continued to refuse to give back the food.

Then I started walking towards the lift, and she started using Hindi bad. She suddenly threw slippers at me and started hitting me. For my safety, when she was hitting me, I tried to use my hand to shield her blows. When she was trying to push my hand away, she accidentally hit herself with her finger ring on the nose, which led to the bleeding. Anybody who sees her face, will understand that this wouldn't be created by a punch. And I don’t wear any rings. I am working on this job for more than two years and this is the first time that I have had to go through this kind of an ordeal. The Zomato support system person in Delhi also supported me and offered me empathy after I narrated the ordeal that I had to go through. The problem is there is no CCTV footage to prove my innocence.”

Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal shared the statement on Twitter which said: “Zomato is in constant touch with Hitesha & Kamaraj. We are covering Hitesha's medical expenses. We are cooperating with the police. Kamaraj has been suspended but we will continue to pay his salary, while the police investigation is going on. We will also pay for his lawyers fees. We will make sure both sides of the story come to light and both are treated equally.”

People on the internet are angry that Zomato suspended him when the investigation is still going on. Kamaraj has a 4.5 rating and many positive comments about his delivery. He comes from a very poor background and works hard to support his family. People are saying that if Kamaraj worked for 2 years and never had such an incident like this, why would he do this now. Everyone is demanding Zomato reinstate him.
